Raising Kids with Neighbors
My mother used to look after my children, but she suddenly fell ill a few years ago. As a result, my kids started staying at daycare until dinner. Coincidentally, there was another pair of siblings at the daycare who also stayed for dinner. They were around the same age as my sons, and their mom worked even later hours at her shop than I did.
몇 년 전 우리 아이들을 봐 주시던 친정 엄마가 갑자기 편찮으셨다. 그래서 우리 아이들은 어린이집 에서 저녁까지 먹는 생활을 시작하게 되었다. 마침 어린이집에는 이미 저녁을 먹는 또 다른 형제가 있었다. 우리 아들들과 나이가 비슷했고, 가게를 운영하는 그 아이들의 엄마는 나보다도 늦게 퇴근을 했다.
And so, the four children would leave daycare late at night and play together in the playground after dark, growing up side by side. Every Friday, I would bring all the kids back to my house. Until their mom finished work, we did activities like painting or science experiments.
그렇게 4명의 아이들은 늦은 시간에 하원을 하였고, 해가 진 놀이터에서 함께 놀면서 성장했다. 매주 금요일이면, 나는 아이들을 전부 우리 집에 데려왔다. 그 엄마가 퇴근할 때까지 우리는 물감 놀이나 과학 실험 등의 활동을 하였다
Beyond that, we threw birthday parties together. We even took turns watching each other's kids on weekends, finding small moments of relief. In this way, we've supported one another and raised our children together.
그 외에도 우리는 같이 아이들의 생일 파티를 해 주었다. 주말이면 서로의 아이들을 교대로 봐 주면 서, 조금씩 여유를 찾기도 했다. 이렇게 우리는 서로를 의지하며 아이들을 함께 키우고 있다.
