Publishing a Parenting Journal

 

I was deeply impressed by a previous "입트영" story about keeping a parenting journal. My younger sister suggested that we have a go at writing one, with the final goal of eventually publishing it. And so, I got right on it.

​나는 예전 '트영' 사연 중 '육아 일기 쓰기'에 깊은 인상을 받았다. 여동생이 우리도 출간을 목표로 육아 일기 쓰기에 도전해 보자고 제안을 했다. 그 말을 듣고 나는 바로 시작했다.

 

Before starting the journal, the repetitive work of childcare felt exhausting. There were days of great joy, thanks to the remarkable growth of my child. But most days felt like they blurred together.

​육아 일기를 쓰기 전에는 반복되는 육아가 고되고 힘들게 느껴졌다. 아이의 눈에 띄는 성장이 주는 화려한 기쁨이 있는 날도 있었다. 하지만 육아를 하는 대부분의 날들은 그날이 그날 같았다.

 

As I began keeping the diary, my daily life changed bit by bit. I recorded the words my kids exchanged with each other, the things they said to me and their dad, the phrases they muttered to themselves, and even their drawings and writings. Over time, I recorded many memorable anecdotes(에닉도츠).

​그런데 육아 일기를 쓰면서 내 일상은 조금씩 바뀌어 갔다. 아이들이 서로 주고받은 말, 아이가 아빠 엄마에게 한 말, 아이 혼자 중얼거린 말, 아이의 그림과 글까지 기록으로 남겼다. 시간이 지나면서 일상에서 기억할 만한 일화가 늘어 갔다.

 

I eventually completed a 100-day streak(끊기지 않고 가는 것, 연속 기) of writing the diary and successfully published it as a book. I'm truly grateful to my sister for motivating me to take on this project.

​결국 100일 연속 육아 일기 쓰기를 완료했고 성공적으로 책을 출간했다. 이 프로젝트를 하자고 동기 부여를 해 준 동생에게 정말 고맙다.

B: It's a parenting diary I wrote. 제가 쓴 육아 일기예요.

A: Really? You wrote that whole thing yourself? 정말요? 그 많은 것을 전부 직접 쓰셨다고요?

B: Yes, I kept a parenting journal for a hundred days straight, and turned it into a book. 네, 100일간 육아 일기를 써서 책으로 만들었어요.

A: Wow! You're a published author. 와! 작가님이시네요.

B: It contains how my child grew up, so it's more precious to me than any other book in the world. 아이의 성장 과정이 고스란히 담겨 있어서, 저에게는 세상 그 어떤 책보다 더 소중해요.
