Pet Hamster

 

I am a father with two sons in grade school. My eldest son started begging me for a pet hamster last month. So last week, we finally adopted one to raise at home.

​저는 초등학생 아들 둘을 키우고 있는 아빠입니다. 큰아들이 지난달부터 저에게 햄스터를 키우고 싶다고 했습니다. 그래서 지난주에 드디어 분양받아서 집에서 키우기 시작했습니다.

 

I hadn't realized how many things we needed to buy. We had to get all sorts of stuff, including a food dish, wood shavings, a running wheel, a litter box, a playground, and a hiding place. We shopped around, buying everything we needed, and set up a home for our new pet.

​저는 이것저것 사야 할 것들이 그렇게 많은 줄 몰랐습니다. 먹이통, 톱밥, 쳇바퀴, 화장실, 놀이터, 은신처 등 여러 용품들을 사야 했습니다. 우리는 여기저기 돌아다니며, 필요한 것을 모두 사서 새 반려동물을 위한 집을 잘 꾸며 주었답니다.

 

One morning at work, I got a message from my wife. She told me that before heading to school, our younger son gave the hamster a grave warning: "When you are home alone, don't open the door for anyone. But if someone with a lot of facial hair comes, you can open it. That's my dad." It was so funny that I couldn't stop laughing.

​하루는 아침에 출근해서 일하고 있는데, 아내한테서 메시지가 왔습니다. 둘째 아들이 학교 가기 전 에 햄스터한테 진지하게 당부의 말을 했다고 합니다. "집에 혼자 있을 때, 누가 와도 문을 열어 주면 안 돼. 그런데 수염이 많이 난 사람이 오면 열어 줘. 우리 아빠야." 얼마나 웃기던지 저 혼자 한참을 웃었습니다.

B: That's right. They fight over who gets to feed it! 맞아요. 서로 먹이를 주겠다고 난리예요!
