Patriotism

Our son is a fifth grader this year. Ever since he was about seven years old, he raised his hand in salute whenever he saw a passing soldier or even when he heard the sound of a fighter jet in the sky.

저희 아들은 올해 초등학교 5학년입니다. 아들은 5살 때부터인가 지나가는 군인을 보거나, 심지어 하늘에서 전투기 소리만 들려도 거수경례를 하곤 했습니다.

Our family naturally started attending military-related events on a frequent basis. In 2021, we were in attendance at the Seoul International Aerospace & Defense Exhibition(ADEX) at Seoul Airfield. Last year, we atteded the "World Military Culture Expo" in Gyeryong City, where the headquarters of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces is located.

자연스레 우리 가족은 군 관련된 행사에 자주 참석하게 되었습니다. 2021년 서울 비행장에서 열린 서울 국제 항공 우주 및 방위 산업 전시회에 다녀왔습니다. 작년에는 대한민국 국군 본부가 있는 계룡시에서 개최한 '세계 군 문화 엑스포'에 참석했습니다.

Visiting these various military-related events, both big and small, provided great opportunities to experience the excellence of our national defense capabilities and to engrave the patriotic spirit deep in our hearts.

이렇게 크고 작은 다양한 군 관련 행사들을 방문하면서 우리 국방력의 우수성을 느끼고 호국의 정신을 가슴속 깊이 새길 수 있는 좋은 기회가 되었습니다.

Even at a young age, my son seems to recognize that the freedoms and economic prosperity we enjoy today are all thanks to the dedication and sacrifices of our national heroes and the endless efforts of the soldiers who resolutely protect our country.

어린 나이임에도 저희 아들은 지금 우리가 누리고 있는 자유와 경제적 풍요로움은 모두 나라를 위하여 헌신하고 희생하신 호국 영웅들과, 철통같은 태세로 나라를 지키는 군인들의 끝없는 노력 덕분이라는 것을 깨달은 것 같습니다.

A: Oh, It must have been nice to see him after such a long time. 아, 오랜만에 아들을 봐서 좋으셨겠어요.

B: Of course, I brought some goodies for him to share with his squad mates. 그럼요. 같이 복무하는 부대원들과 나눠 먹으라고 음식도 좀 챙겨 갔어요.
