Paperless Society

 

As a child, I never even imagined that words like e-receipt, e-prescription, or digital backbook would ever exist. But nowadays these terms are widely used in everyday life as a matter of course. To promote green living, some stores offer incentives to customers who receive an e-recept instead of a paper one.

어린 시절에 나는 전자 영수증, 전자 처방전, 디지털 통장 등의 단어들이 생겨날 거라고는 상상도 못했다. 하지만 지금은 이런 용어들이 너무나 당연한 듯 실생활에서 널리 쓰이고 있다. 녹색 생활을 장려하기 위해 일부 마트에서는 종이 영수증이 아닌 전자 영수증을 발급받는 고객에게 인센티브를 제공하기도 한다.

 

Many companies are working on reducing paper usage as part of their efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions. At our company, we encourage the use of laptops or tablets during meetings. We also monitor how much each department has reduced its paper usage compared to the previous year or month.

온실가스 감축을 위한 노력으로 많은 기업에서 종이 사용량을 줄이는 운동을 진행 중이다. 우리 회사에서도 회의 중에 노트북이나 태블릿 활용을 권장하고, 각 부서별로 종이 사용량을 전년 또는 전월에 비해 얼마나 감축하였는지를 점검한다.

 

I still print out reports as I repeatedly revise them, which isn't a good thing in terms of resource conservation and greenhouse gas reduction. It won't be long before printing on paper in offices becomes difficult. A paperless office might soon become the norm.

나는 여전히 보고서를 수없이 고치며 프린트하는 것을 반복하는데, 자원 절약과 온실가스 감축 측면에서 미덕이 아닌 듯싶다. 머지않아 사무실에서 종이에 인쇄하기 힘든 시기가 도래할 것 같다. 곧 종이 없는 사무실이 표준이 될지도 모른다.

B: Oh, really? That's tempting.

A: why don't we each bring our laptops to the meeting, starting today?

B: Sounds good! They do say to strike while the iron is hot, right?
