Packing Lunch

 

I packed my children a lunch once or twice a year when they go on a field trip. I hardly ever have to pack their lunch since they usually eat at the cafeteria at school. I always worry about wht to make.

아이들 현장 체험 학습이 있을 때, 일 년에 한두번 정도 도시락을 싸 주고는 한다. 학교에서는 아이들이 주로 급식을 먹다 보니 도시락을 싸 줘야 할 일이 거의 없다. 그래서 도시락을 쌀 때면 어떤 도시락을 만들어야 할지 항상 걱정이다.

"Mom, can you make me lunch like the character in this book?" When I heard this, I broke out in a cold sweat. I began to dread the day of the upcoming fired trip. I had no choice but to tell a white lie, saying that all the ingredients for the character lunch were sold out. Instead, I woke up early and made mini gimbap accoridng to my own secret recipe. For dessert, I packed melon, tangerinces, and a banana. Thankfully, I managed to pack a lunch that looked pretty good.

"엄마, 이 책에 나오는 캐릭터 도시락을 싸 줄 수 있어요?" 이 말을 들었을 때, 나는 식은땀이 났다. 다가오는 체험 학습일이 두려워지기 시작했다. 나는 캐릭터 도시락에 쓸 재료가 다 팔렸다는 선의의 거짓말을 할 수밖에 없었다. 대신 새벽에 일어나서 나만의 특별한 비법이 담긴 꼬마 김밥을 만들었다. 그리고 후식으로 멜론과 귤, 바나나도 넣었다. 다행히 그럴듯한 예쁜 도시락이 만들어졌다.

 

My second-grade daughter thanked me, saying it was delicious. It made me feel guilty, so I think I'll have a go at making the character lunchbox next year.

초등학교 2학년인 딸은 맛있게 먹었다며 고맙다고 해 주었다. 마음에 찔려서 내년에는 캐릭터 도시락 만들기에 도전해 봐야 할 것 같다.

A: Mom, I could really go for a cinnamon roll in my lunchbox this time. 엄마, 이버넹는 시나몬롤 도시락을 꼭 만들어 주면 좋겠어요.

B: How about we just use a store-bought roll instead? 그냥 가게에서 롤을 사는 건 어떨까?

A: Don't you know how to make it at home? 직접 만드는 방법을 모르세요?

B: That's right. I don't know the first thing about baking. Can you show me how? 응, 엄마가 베이킹은 전혀 몰라서. 네가 알려 줄래?

A: Then can you make a Pokemon Eevee lunchbox? 그럼 포켓몬 이브이 도시락은 가능해요?

B: Hmm...How about if I just add some pokemon bread instead? 음...대신 포켓몬빵을 추가로 넣어 주면 안 될까?
