Job Transfers

At our company, there are personnel transfers twice a year, in January and July. Not every employee is subject to these transfers, but most become a candidate to move to a new post after two or three years.

저희 회사는 1년에 두 번, 1월과 7월에 인사이동이 있습니다. 전 직원이 인사이동 대상은 아니지만, 대 부분 2년에서 3년 정도 근무하고 나면 인사이동 대상자가 됩니다.​

 

This means that even if you're not transferred yourself, you end up meeting new coworkers every six months. On the downside, it's tough and sad to part ways with team members you've grown close to.

​따라서 본인이 인사이동을 하지 않더라도 6개월에 한 번은 새로운 동료들을 만나게 되는 셈입니다. 한 편으로는 정들었던 팀원들과 헤어져야 해서 참 아쉽고 힘든 과정입니다.

 

The first time I experienced a transfer, I cried my eyes out. Even now, more than a decade later, saying goodbye hasn't gotten any easier. But there are positive aspects as well, such as forming new connections with people and learning new skills.

​저는 처음 인사이동을 했을 때도 눈물 콧물 다 흘렸는데, 10년이 훨씬 지난 지금도 헤어짐이 쉽지는 않습니다. 하지만 새로운 사람들과 좋은 인연을 맺을 수 있고, 새로운 업무도 배울 수 있어서 좋은 점 도 있습니다.

Dialogue Practice

A: I transferred to a new department this month. 이번 달에 부서를 새로 옮겼어요.

B: Was it part of the regular personnel transfers? 정기 인사이동이었나요?

A: Yes, that's right. It happens every six months. 네, 맞아요. 6개월마다 있어요.

B: At our company, we rarely have personnel transfers. 저희 회사는 인사이동을 거의 안 해요.

A: Really? It's the opposite at our company. 그래요? 저희와 반대네요.

B: I suppose(=guess) both approaches have their pros and cons. 두 방식 모두 장단점이 있겠죠.
