"입트영" for Retirees

 

Our English study group was formed last year so that we could learn together. The average age of our members is over 65. We are guided by a teacher who majored in English and currently works as an English instructor.

​우리는 작년부터 영어 스터디 그룹을 만들어 함께 공부를 하고 있습니다. 회원들의 평균 나이는 65세가 넘습니다. 영어를 전공하고 지금 현직에서 영어를 가르치시는 선생님 한 분이 이끌어 주고 계십니 다.

 

Each week, we select one entry(사연) from the "입트영" workbook. After studying the content together, we have to memorize it entirely by the next session. At first, the memorization was so difficult that it felt overwhelming. But we gradually got the hang of it as we kept reading passages aloud and memorizing them. Our teacher often commends(칭찬하다) us for improving our pronunciation.

​매주 우리는 '입트영' 교재에서 한 편을 선정합니다. 내용을 함께 공부하고 나서, 그 다음 시간까지 통으로 외워야 합니다. 처음에는 외우는 것이 너무 어려워서 감당하기 힘들기도 했습니다. 하지만 본문을 계속 소리 내어 읽으며 외우다 보니 점차 요령이 생겼습니다. 발음도 좋아졌다고 선생님으로부터 칭찬도 많이 받습니다.

I want to keep learning English as a hobby even into my 80s, as a way to prevent dementia. I'd like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our teacher for volunteering to help us.

​치매 예방을 위해 취미 생활로 영어 공부를 80세가 넘어서까지 계속하고 싶습니다. 이 기회를 빌려 우리에게 봉사해 주시는 선생님께 감사의 마음을 전하고 싶습니다.

B: Yes, we've been getting together since last year. 네, 작년부터 모여서 하고 있어요.

A: Aren't most of the members getting on in years? 회원분들이 대부분 연세가 좀 있지 않으세요?

B: Yes, I'm 65, and I'm the youngest in the group. 네, 제가 65세인데, 모임에서 가장 어려요.

A: That's amazing. 멋지시네요.

B: Thanks! We have a very dedicated teacher who inspires us to really hit the books. 고마워요! 열심히 이끌어 주시는 선생님 한 분이 있어서 다들 정말 열심히 공부합니다.
