Types of Bus Stops

 

A bus stop is a place where people wait to board a bus. There are a few different types of bus stops.

​사람들이 버스를 타기 위해 기다리는 장소를 버스 정류장이라고 한다. 버스 정류장의 종류에는 몇 가지가 있다.

​

First, many bus stops are of(동격, of the~로 쓰임/are shelter types라고 써도 됨) the shelter type. A shelter type bus stop includes seats where people can sit back and relax, and a Bus Information System (BIS) that shows the ETA for the next bus. The advantage is that people can sit and wait at their leisure. But these stops are on the large side, which makes them difficult to install on narrow streets.

먼저, 많은 정류장들은 쉘터형으로 되어 있다. 쉘터형 정류장이란 편히 앉아서 쉴 수 있는 의자와 다음 버스의 도착 예정 시간을 알려 주는 버스 정보 시스템(BIS)이 있는 정류장을 말한다. 사람들이 의자에 앉아서 편하게 기다릴 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 그러나 이런 정류장들은 크기가 큰 편이서 좁은 길에는 설치하기 어렵다.

 

On the other hand, some bus stops are of the pole type. Pole type stops usually don't have seating and consist of just a single signboard with bus information. The advantage of these stops is that they are a snap to install even in narrow alleys, but the downside is that you have to stand while you wait for your bus.

​한편, 일부 버스 정류장들은 지주형으로 되어 있다. 지주형 정류장들은 보통 의자가 없으며, 버스 안내 표지판 하나만 덩그러니 놓여 있다. 이런 정류장들은 좁은 골목길에도 쉽게 설치할 수 있다는 장점이 있지만, 버스를 서서 기다려야 한다는 단점도 있다.

A: We have about 20 minutes until the bus arrives. 버스가 오려면 20분 정도 남았네.

B: Let's have a seat on the bus stop bench and wait. 버스 정류장 의자에 앉아서 기다리자.

A: Sounds good. 그러자.

B: At times like this, it's nice to have a place to sit. 이럴 때는, 정류장에 앉을 곳이 있어서 참 좋네.

A: That's right. Also, I am thankful for the electronic screen that shows the bus's ETA. 맞아. 게다가 버스가 언제 오는지 알려 주는 전광판도 새삼 고맙게 느껴져.

B: Even bus stops have really improved a lot. 버스 정류장들도 예전에 비해서 많이 좋아진 것 같아.
