A Family of Fanatics
The word "deokhu" refers to someone who is deeply passionate about an interest or hobby. My entire family could be considered deokhu.
'덕후'라는 말은 관심사나 취미에 푹 빠진 매니아를 지칭합니다. 우리 가족은 모두 덕후입니다.
I am the eldest daughter, and my hobbies include reading, board games, and escape rooms. I enjoy activities that involve thinking and problem-solving. My younger sister's hobbies are music and fashion. Among the siblings, she could be called the "hipster," always keeping up with the latest trends. My youngest sister's hobby is gaming. She primarily enjoys console games and says she feels happiest when she can fully immerse herself in the latest releases.
장녀인 저의 취미는 독서, 보드게임, 방 탈출입니다. 머리로 생각하며 문제를 해결하는 활동을 즐기는 편이에요. 둘째의 취미는 음악과 패션입니다. 자매 중 가장 최신 유행을 따르는 '힙스터'라고 할 수 있지요. 셋째의 취미는 게임입니다. 주로 콘솔 게임을 즐기는데, 신작 게임을 원없이 플레이할 때가 가장 행복하다고 하네요.

My father's hobby is the most unique of all: studying classical Chinese texts such as the "Analects of Confucius" and "The Great Learning." Recently, he has been deeply absorbed in studying the original text of the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty.

B: Really? Why is that? 그래요? 왜요?
A: It's because everyone is absorbed in their own hobbies. 가족들 모두가 각자의 취미에 열중하느라 그래요.
B: Is everyone like that? 전부 그러세요?
A: Yes, it runs in the family, including both of my parents. 네, 부모님도 그렇고, 식구들이 다 비슷해요.
B: It's good to have a healthy hobby. You must get it from your parents. 건강한 취미가 있으면 좋죠. 부모님을 닮아서 그런가 보네요.
