Ceremony for New Recruits

 

Every year at our company ceremony for new recruits, where I meet the new employees for the first time, a saying always comes to mind: "A person's arrival is an incredible event, because an entire life is arriving as well." From the faces of the new hires at the ceremony, I could sense a wide range of emotions, like shyness, nervousness, and awkwardness.

매년 신입 직원들을 처음 만나는 자리인 입사에 가면 늘 떠오르는 말이 있다. "사람이 온다는 것은 어마어마한 일이다. 한 사람의 일생이 오기 때문이다." 입사식에 참석한 신입 직원들의 얼굴에서 수줍음, 긴장감, 어색함 등의 많은 감정들을 감지할 수 있었다.​

 

At a welcoming event held after the ceremony, I congratulated the new employees. A common sentiment heard from them was that their parents were thrilled to hear that they had landed a job at our company. Hearing this made me realize that I must really do my job as a mentor, helping them realize their dreams and goals.

입사식 이후 마련된 환영의 자리에서, 나는 신입 직원들에게 축하의 인사를 건넸다. 이들로부터 부모님들께서 이 회사에 취업한 것을 듣고 정말 좋아하셨다는 말을 공통적으로 들을 수 있었다. 이런 말을 들으니 이들이 꿈과 목표를 펼쳐 나갈 수 있도록 조력자로서의 역할을 충실히 해야겠다는 다짐을 하게 되었다.​

 

Meanwhile, I also found myself hoping that my own children will receive such a warm welcome when they enter the workforce.

한편으로, 우리 아이들도 취업을 해서 이러한 환대를 꼭 받을 수 있기를 바라는 마음이 들었다.​

A: You must have had a lot of people congratulating you for landing a job. 입사 합격한 이후 축하한다는 이야기를 많이 들었겠어요.

B: Yes, my parents were especially thrilled. 네. 특히 부모님께서 무척 좋아하셨어요.

A: It's no wonder they were happy. It's not easy to secure a job as a new hire these days. 정말 기뻐하셨을 것 같아요. 요즘 신입으로 취업하기가 쉽지 않잖아요.

B: They were so proud of me. 저를 정말 자랑스러워하셨어요.

A: Which department do you want to work in? 어느 부서에서 근무하고 싶으세요?

B: I'm planning to decide while I receive training as a new hire. 신입 직원 연수를 받으면서 정하려고요.
