Spending Time By Myself

 

I often longed for some me time during the constant hustle and bustle of raising my kids. Once the kids grew up a bit, I finally started to have some time to myself. And after I retired, I had so much free time on my hands that I didn't know how to fill the hours at first.​

아이들을 키울 때는 늘 북적거림 속에서 나만의 시간이 간절했습니다. 아이들이 어느 정도 자라니, 드디어 나만의 시간이 생기기 시작했습니다. 특히 퇴직하고 난 후에는 시간이 넘쳐나는데, 처음에는 어떻게 시간을 보내야 할지 몰랐습니다.

 

After a few years, I gradually settled into a routine. I figured out(몰랐는데 깨닫는 느낌) how to spend my time alone in a productive and cost-effective way.

몇 년이 흐르니 점차 루틴이 정착되었습니다. 돈을 되도록 적게 들이면서 유익하게 나만의 시간을 보내는 방법이 완성되었습니다.

 

In the mornings, I study foreign languages through the EBS Language Academy. After lunch, I take a walk in the park near my house. On the way back, I stop by the supermarket to shop for groceries. Before dinner, I spend time studying math, a subject | enjoyed back in my school days. After dinner, before going to bed, I read books or watch my favorite dramas and movies.

오전에는 EBS 어학당으로 외국어 공부를 합니다. 점심을 먹고 난 후에는 집 근처 공원에서 산책을 합니다. 돌아오는 길에 마트에 들러 장을 봅니다. 저녁 먹기 전까지는 제가 학창 시절에 좋아했던 과목인 수학 공부를 하며 시간을 보냅니다. 저녁을 먹고 자기 전까지는 책을 읽기도 하고, 좋아하는 드라마나 영화를 보기도 합니다.

Dialogue Practice

A: I have so much time to myself now that I'm retired. 퇴직하고 나니 나만의 시간이 참 많아졌어요.

B: Same here. 저도 그래요.

A: I've been trying to develop a routine to spend my days productively. 하루를 더 알차게 보내려고 루틴을 잡아 보고 있어요.

B: I've heard that's a really good idea. 그거 참 좋은 방법이라고 하더라고요.

A:Making plans for mornings, afternoons and evenings by the day of the week has been great. 아침, 점심, 저녁에 뭐 할 지 요일별로 계획을 세워 놓으니 좋네요.

B: I should try doing that, too. 저도 그렇게 해 봐야겠어요.
