Gout, Again

 

About seven years ago, when I was in my mid-50s, I woke up one morning and tried to get out of bed, only to find that my left foot hurt so much that I couldn't walk. At the orthopedic clinic, I was told there was nothing wrong with my bones. So, I went to an internal medicine clinic for a blood test and was diagnosed with gout.

​약 7년 전 50대 중반이었던 어느 날, 아침에 일어나 침대에서 나오려니 왼발이 너무 아파서 도저히 걸을 수가 없었다. 정형외과에서는 뼈에는 이상이 없다는 소견이었다. 그래서, 내과에 가서 혈액 검사를 받아 보니 통풍이라는 진단을 받았다.

 

Gout is a condition where uric acid builds up in the body. It mainly affects the joints, fingers, and toes. Typically, if your blood uric acid level is 7 or higher, it is diagnosed as gout.

​통풍은 우리 몸 안에서 요산이 쌓이는 질환이다. 주로 관절, 손가락, 발가락 부위 등에 영향을 주는 것이 특징이다. 일반적으로 혈액 내 요산 수치가 7 이상이면 통풍으로 판명된다.

 

Since my first gout attack seven years ago, l've managed without medication, relying on weight loss and exercise. But recently, I experienced a painful recurrence. I am now taking traditional herbal medicine prescribed by an oriental medicine clinic that specializes in treating gout.

The medicine helps expel uric acid through urination. I'm also taking preventive medication to manage my uric acid levels. I'm determined to treat this properly this time, so I don't have to endure this pain again.
