COVID-19 and the Hotel Industry

​

I am a man in my late 40s. I have been working in the hotel for 24 years. The COVID-19 pandemic that dragged on for three years created the worst-case scenerio for the hotel industry.

저는 40대 후반 남성으로, 24년간 호텔에서 근무하고 있습니다. 3년 동안 지속된 코로나 19 팬데믹은 호텔 업계에 최악의 상황을 만들었습니다.

Before COVID-19, more than 80% of guests at major hotels in Seoul were tourists visiting from abroad. So, many hotels faced difficulties when foreigners were denied entry during the pandemic. There was even a very tough time when hotels were limited to a maximum occupancy rate of 66%.

코로나 19 이전에 서울 주요 호텔들의 투숙객은 80퍼센트 이상이 외국인 관광객이었습니다. 그래서 팬테믹 당시 외국인 입국 제한 조치로 많은 호텔들이 어려움을 겪었습니다. 심지어 호텔 객실 투숙률을 최대 66퍼센트로 제한하는 매우 어려운 시기도 있었습니다.

Thankfully, as of the second quarter of 2022, the hotel industry has begun to show signs of recovery. Foreign guests who had been absent for a while started to trickle back. As a result, I have been using English more and more often. This is the driving force that makes me study "입트영" diligently every day.

다행히 2022년 2분기를 기점으로 호텔 산업이 점점 회복세를 보이기 시작했습니다. 한동안 볼 수 없었던 외국인 투숙객들이 조금씩 돌아오기 시작했습니다. 그로 인해 저도 영어 사용 빈도가 계속 높아지고 있습니다. 이것이 저에게 '입트영'을 매일 꾸준히 공부하게 되는 원동력이 되는 것 같습니다.
