Scheduling a Health Exam

When the time approaches to schedule a health exam these days, I find myself in a dilemma. It's hard to decide when to get the check-up and whether to undergo a colonoscopy.

최근 들어 건강 검진을 예약해야 하는 시기가 다가오면, 나는 고민에 빠진다. 어느 시점에 검진을 받을 것인지와 대장 내시경을 받을 것인지에 대한 결정이 쉽지 않다.

Back when I was a lower-level employee at work, I loved getting a check-up. After finishing the health exam, I could take the rest of the day off. And if I scheduled the exam on a Friday, I could enjoy a long weekend. And since I was expecting positive results, the health check-up was a pleasant experience.

직급이 낮았던 시절에는 검진을 받는 것이 그렇게 즐거웠다. 건강 검진을 마친 이후 남은 반나절 이상을 쉴 수 있었고, 검진을 금요일로 잡으면 긴 주말을 즐길 수 있었다. 검진 결과 역시 양호할 것으로 기대했기 때문에 건강 검진은 즐거운 경험이었다.

But after scheduling a date for the health check-up in recent years, I often end up changing the reservation. Due to sudden meetings, dinner gathers that I can't get out of, and various unexpected situations, I rarely actually go in for the check-up on the originally reserved date. As for the colonoscopy, I hesitate because I have to spend quite a lot of time in the bathroom after taking the meditation to empty the bowels. Even so, I am determined to do it next year.

하지만 최근 몇 년간은 건강 검진 날짜를 예약한 이후, 예약 일자를 변경하는 경우가 많다. 갑작스러운 회의, 불가피한 저녁 모임 자리, 여러 돌발 상황 등으로 인해 당초 예약한 날짜에 검진을 받으러 가는 일이 드물다. 내장 내시경은 장을 비우기 위한 약을 복용하고 나서 상당 시간 동안 화장실을 가야 하기에 선뜻 내키지 않는다. 그렇지만, 내년에는 꼭 하기로 다짐해 본다.

B: Excuse me? This early in the health exam? 네? 건강 검진 초반부터요?

A: It's best to get it out of the way now, because you won't have to wait as long. 지금 받으시면 대기 시간이 짧아서 좋아요.

B: So, will you also take a blood sample at the same time? 그럼 채혈도 같이 하는 거죠?

A: No, That will be done after the endoscopy. 아니요. 그건 내시경 끝나고 할 거예요.

B: But that menas you'll have to insert a needle into both arms. 그럼 주사 바늘을 양쪽 팔에 모두 꽂아야 하잖아요.
