Unexpected Surgery

 

A few months ago, I went in for a check-up. The results showed that I have a growth(cf.부딪혀 난 혹은 bump) in my abdomen that requires surgery. I am still only in my 30s and I hadn't experienced any pain, so I was caught off guard at first.

몇 달 전에 저는 건강 검진을 받으러 갔습니다. 그런데 내장에 혹이 있어 수술을 받아야 한다는 결과를 받았습니다. 아직 겨우 30대이고, 평소 어떤 통증도 없었기 때문에 처음에는 무척 당황스러웠습니다.

 

The medical staff assured me that it was a stroke of good luck that we discovered the growth before it caused any pain. We scheduled a date for the surgery sooner than I expected. I felt grateful that there would be minimal scarring thanks to advances in medical technology. A major surgery would have been necessary in the past.

scar (동사)상처나다, 상처주다

ex) It will scar. 상처 날거야. I don't want to scar you. 나 너한테 상처주기 싫어

의료진은 통증을 유발하기 전에 혹을 발견한 것이 오히려 다행이라며 저를 안심시켰습니다. 수술 날짜도 생각보다 일찍 잡혔습니다. 또한 의학 기술의 발달로 최소한의 흉터만 남는다는 것이 감사하게 느껴졌습니다. 옛날 같으면 큰 수술이 필요했을 것입니다.

 

I'm trying to be cool about it by focusing on the positives, but I'm still a bit scared. I hope the painful recovery period will pass by quickly and that I will regain my health soon.

이렇게 긍정적인 부분들에 집중하면서 의연하려고 애쓰고 있긴 하지만, 아직 조금은 겁이 납니다. 수술 후 고통스러운 회복 기간이 빨리 지나가고, 어서 다시 건강해졌으면 좋겠습니다.

B: Is there something wrong? 어디 이상이 있으세요?

A: They said I need surgery to remove a growth in my abdomen. 내장에 혹 제거 수술이 필요하다는 소견을 받았어요.

B: Really? 정말요?

A: Yes, they said it's better to remove it before it gets any bigger. 네, 더 커지기 전에 제거를 하는 것이 좋다고 하네요.

B: Oh no, surgery is no joke. I'm worried for you. 아이고, 수술이 보통이 아닌데, 걱정이네요.
