Making Dumplings

 

During the Lunar New Year holiday this year, I got together with some friends to make dumplings. We watched YouTube videos together to figure out the necessary ingredients, and went grocery shopping. The five of us sat down, chopped vegetables, and mixed all the ingredients together to make the dumpling filling.

올해 설 연휴에 저는 친구들과 모여 만두를 빚었습니다. 함께 유튜브 영상을 보며 필요한 재료를 알아본 후 장을 보았습니다. 다섯 명이 모여 앉아서 채소를 썰고, 재료들을 한데 섞어 만두소를 만들었습니다.

 

Before steaming the final batch(하나의 묶음), we steamed 10 samples of meat and kimchi dumplings. We added a few more ingredients after tasting them to finish the filling, and finally made a hundred dumplings.

최종적으로 만두를 찌기 전에, 고기 만두와 김치 만두 10개를 샘플로 쪄 보았습니다. 맛을 본 후 몇 가지 재료를 더 넣어 만두소를 마무리하고, 마침내 100여 개의 만두를 빚었습니다.

 

The group was comprised of friends of the host, so we were unfamiliar with each other at first. But as we sat around making dumplings and shooting the breeze, we quickly became friends. We even promised to meet up again for the next holiday and try making a new dish together.

주최자 친구의 지인들로 구성된 모임이라 처음에는 서로가 낯설었습니다. 하지만 둘러앉아 만두를 빚으며 이야기를 나누다 보니, 금세 친해질 수 있었습니다. 우리는 다음 명절에 또 모여 같이 새로운 요리를 만들어 보자고 약속도 했습니다.

Dialogue Practice

A: What did you do over the holiday(s)? 명절에 뭐 했어요?

B: I got together with some friends and we cooked and ate together. 친구들과 한데 모여 음식을 같이 해서 먹었어요.

A: You didn't spend with your family? 가족들과 모이지는 않았어요?

B: No, we ususally see each other before the holiday, and then spend the actual holiday apart. 네, 저희 가족은 보통 명절 전에 얼굴을 보고, 명절 때는 각자 시간을 보내고 있어요.

A: Oh, that's a good way to do it. 아, 그것도 좋은 방법이네요.

B: Yeah, I have a few friends who do the same, so we always get together for(기념하여) the holidays. 네, 그런 친구들이 몇 명 있어서, 명절 때마다 늘 만나고 있어요.
