Origami

 

My son has a special hobby: origami(오러가미). When he was five years old, I folded a paper crane(학) for him. That sparked a deep interest in him, and he began diving into the world of folding paper.

​우리 아들에게는 종이접기라는 특별한 취미가 있다. 아이가 5살 때 종이학 한 마리를 접어 주었는데 그것을 계기로 크게 관심을 갖더니 아이는 종이접기에 빠져들기 시작했다.

 

He started with simple designs, but now, as a 10th grader, he has mastered almost every design featured in books published both domestically and internationally. He even joined an origami club where he creates his own original works.

​처음에는 쉬운 작품들로 시작했는데, 고등학교 1학년이 된 지금은 국내외에서 출판된 책에 나온 작품 들을 거의 다 마스터했다. 종이접기 동호회 활동을 하며 스스로 작품을 창작하기도 한다.

 

When people think of origami, they often imagine simple crafts(손으로 만든 공예 작품) made with colored paper. But the field is actually a profound and sophisticated genre of art. When you see works by professional artists, it's hard to believe that such intricate and artistic pieces are created from a single sheet of paper.

​사람들은 종이접기라고 하면 보통 색종이로 만드는 소소한 작품들을 떠올린다. 그러나, 사실 이 분야 는 매우 심오하고 정교한 예술 장르이다. 전문 작가들의 작품을 보면, 종이 한 장으로 접었다는 것이 도저히 믿기지 않을 만큼 섬세하고 예술적이다.

 

As a mother, I'm delighted to see how this hobby enriches my son's life.

이 취미가 아들의 인생을 더 풍요롭게 해 주는 것을 보니 엄마로서 기쁘다.

A: These are incredibly intricate! 엄청나게 섬세하네요!

B: They really look like works of art, don't they? 훌륭한 예술 작품 같죠?

A: Yes, absolutely. 네, 맞아요.

B: I never imagined that his childhood curiosity would become such an artistic hobby. 아들의 어린 시절 호기심이 이렇게 멋진 예술적 취미가 될지 저도 몰랐어요.
