Studying English News
Since September 2023, I've been studying English news through the "귀트영" program on EBS. I had tried to study English news before, but I couldn't stay consistent and eventually gave up. But this time, "귀트영" helped me establish a solid routine for studying English news.
2023년 9월부터 EBS '귀트영' 방송을 통해 영어 뉴스 공부를 해 오고 있습니다. 저는 그 전에도 영어 뉴스 공부를 시도했지만, 꾸준히 하지 못하고 결국 중단하곤 했어요. 그러나 이번에는 '귀트영' 방송을 통해 영어 뉴스 공부 루틴을 확실히 잡을 수 있었습니다.
Because English news includes complex content and vocabulary, preparation is essential. I listen to audio clips again and again, reading the news text as I listen. During the broadcast, I use Google Keep to take notes on the explanations from the two instructors. By organizing key words, synonyms, and antonyms, and summarizing articles, I gradually build my own vocabulary book.
영어 뉴스는 내용과 어휘가 어려워서 예습이 필수입니다. 음원을 들으며 뉴스 본문을 보면서, 반복해 서 청취를 합니다. 방송을 들으면서 두 분 선생님의 설명을 구글 킵(Google Keep) 메모에 필기합니다. 핵심어, 유의어, 반의어를 정리하고 기사를 요약하다 보면 점차 나만의 단어장이 만들어집니다.
Afterward, I read the English news aloud. I sometimes discuss the day's topic with my husband. Studying this way has made English news genuinely enjoyable. I'm able to improve my vocabulary without consciously trying to memorize words and phrases.
그러고 나서, 영어 뉴스를 낭독합니다. 가끔 남편과 당일 뉴스 주제에 대해 대화를 나누기도 합니다.
이렇게 공부를 하니 영어 뉴스가 정말 재미있어지고, 단어와 표현을 굳이 외우려고 노력하지 않아도 어휘를 늘릴 수 있더라고요.

A: I feel like my listening and reading comprehension skills are steadily improving. 영어 청취력과 문해력도 꾸준히 느는 것 같아요.
B: I try to summarize each day's news story in one sentence. 저는 매일 뉴스 내용을 한 문장으로 요약도 해 보고 있어요.
A: That's a great idea. I look forward to what articles I'll encounter each day. 그거 참 좋은 방법이네요. 저는 매일 어떤 기사를 만나게 될지 기대하게 돼요.
B: Exactly. I love how it helps me gain general knowledge about various issues. 맞아요. 다양한 이슈에 대한 시사 상식이 쌓여 가는 것이 참 좋아요.
