Reducing Paper Towel Use

 

Many restrooms these days provide paper towels for you to dry your hands. But just one sheet is usually not enough to completely dry wet hands, and most people end up using two. I often think about the vast number of trees that have to be cut down to produce these towels, and it feels wasteful.

​요즘 화장실에 가면 손을 닦도록 페이퍼 타월을 제공하는 곳이 많다. 하지만 보통 손에 있는 물기를 다 제거하려면 한 장으로는 충분하지 않고, 결국 두 장을 쓰는 사람들이 대부분이다. 가끔 이 타월을 만드는 데 베어져야 할 엄청난 양의 나무를 생각하면 너무 아깝다는 느낌이 든다.

 

I've always given a lot of thought to how I can save on paper towel usage. First, after washing my hands, I shake them several times over the sink to remove excess('엑'세스) water. Then, I fold a paper towel in half before I use it. This way, one sheet is usually more than enough. An added benefit of this method is that it's a quick workout for your arms. Another method is simply wiping my hands dry on my pants, which is also a time-saver. *blow dry 드라이어로 말리다/towel dry 타올로 말리다

나는 페이퍼 타월을 절약할 수 있는 방법이 없나 늘 고민을 많이 해 왔다. 우선, 손을 씻은 후에 양손을 세면대에 여러 번 털어 남은 물기를 제거한다. 그 다음에 페이퍼 타월을 한 번 접은 후에 사용하는데, 이렇게 하면 보통 한 장이면 충분하다. 이 방법은 팔 운동이 되는 장점도 있다. 간단히 바지에 손을 쓱쓱 문질러서 닦는 방법도 있는데, 이 방법은 시간도 아낄 수 있다.

In this way, I want to do my part to preserve the environment for future generations.

이렇게 함으로써 다음 세대에게 물려줄 환경을 지키는 데 나도 조금이나마 내 역할을 다하고 싶다.

A: But there are paper towels right over there. 하지만 저기 페이퍼 타월이 있잖아요.

B: If I do this, one sheet is more than enough. 이렇게 하면, 한 장이면 충분하거든요.

A: Oh, you're practicing resource conservation! 아, 자원 절약을 실천하는 중이시군요!

B: That's right. Sometimes, I just wipe my hands dry on my pants. 맞아요. 가끔은 그냥 바지에 손을 쓱쓱 문질러서 닦는 경우도 있어요.
