TESOL Certification

 

Back when I was young, we started learning English in middle school. But nowadays, children seem to start even before entering grade school. My child turned six recently, and I naturally started to take an interest in English education. Seeing other kids that age attending English academies made me feel anxious.

​내가 어렸을 때는 중학교에 들어가서 영어를 배우기 시작했는데, 요즘은 아이들이 초등학교에 들어가기도 전부터 영어를 시작하는 분위기이다. 최근에 아이가 6살이 되면서 나는 자연스럽게 영어 교육에 관심을 가지게 되었다. 또래 아이들이 영어 학원을 다니는 것을 보니 조바심이 생기기 시작했다.

While looking up information, I learned about the TESOL certification program, which is a course for teaching English. As someone who has never taught anyone in a structured way, I found it interesting. I want to teach my child properly, and prepare for the second chapter of my life, so l'm currently studying for the TESOL certification.

​이런저런 정보를 찾아보다가 영어 티칭 과정인 테솔 자격증 프로그램이 있다는 것을 알게 되었다. 체계적으로 누군가를 가르쳐 본 적이 없는 나로서는 흥미로운 교육 과정이었다. 내 아이를 제대로 가르치고 싶기도 하고 제2의 나의 인생을 준비하기 위해서 지금 테솔 자격증 과정을 공부하는 중이다.

 

I attend lectures and do my homework during lunch breaks at work and after putting my child to sleep at night. It isn't easy to study as a working mom, but I feel proud to have started studying again, even if it's later in life.

​직장에서 점심시간에, 그리고 밤에 아이를 재우고 나서 수업을 듣고 과제를 하고 있다. 워킹맘으로 공부까지 한다는 것이 쉽지 않지만, 뒤늦게라도 이렇게 공부를 다시 시작한 것이 참 뿌듯하다.

A: What are you studying these days? 요즘 무슨 공부를 하시는 거예요?

B: I'm doing test prep for a TESOL certification. 테솔 자격증 시험 공부를 하고 있어요.

A: Oh, did you start because of your child's English education? 아, 아이 영어 교육 때문에 공부를 시작하신 거예요?

B: That's right. It feels a bit strange to go back to studying at 40. 맞아요. 나이 40에 다시 공부를 한다는 것이 조금 낯설기는 해요.

A: You're too modest. I admire your passion as a mother. 겸손이 지나치시네요. 엄마로서의 열정이 참 멋져요.

B: I just want to do everything I possibly can for my child. 아이를 위해서라면 할 수 있는 모든 것을 해 보고 싶어요.
