Two Dads at a Singing Competition
In May 2024, the KBS National Singing Contest was held in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, where I live. A junior from my music club back when I was in college also lives nearby, and he suggested that we should give it a try. So, we decided to participate in the contest as a male duet.
2024년 5월, 제가 살고 있는 서울 강동구에서 KBS 전국노래자랑이 열렸습니다. 같은 구에 사는 대학 음악 동아리 후배가 도전해 보자고 제안했고, 우리는 남성 듀엣으로 전국노래자랑에 참가하기로 했습니다.
We're both fathers raising sons, and we made time here and there to practice singing and harmonizing together. We prepared the song "Doll," a ballad. We even coached our two sons to mimic the facial expressions of MC Nam Hee-seok as a little performance trick.
둘 다 아들을 키우고 있는 아빠였기에 틈틈이 시간을 내서 함께 노래와 화음 연습을 했습니다. 발라드 곡인 '인형'을 준비했습니다. 두 아들에게도 개인기로 남희석 MC님의 표정을 따라해 보라고 연습시켰습니다.
A total of 338 teams participated. On the day of the preliminaries, we saw that many contestants were great singers. Luckily, we passed the first round of preliminaries and made it into the top 44 teams for the second round. However, we didn't make it to the final 15 teams for the main competition. Even so, we made some unforgettable memories.
총 338팀이 참여하였고, 예심 날 보니 가창력이 뛰어난 분들도 꽤 많았습니다. 저희는 다행히 1차 예심을 합격하였고, 2차 예심 44팀에 들게 되었습니다. 그러나 결과적으로 저희는 본선 진출을 위한 최종 15팀에는 들지 못했습니다. 하지만 잊지 못할 좋은 추억을 만들었습니다.
If you plan to participate in the National Singing Contest, I recommend choosing an upbeat song that seniors in the audience will enjoy.
만약 전국노래자랑 참가를 준비하신다면, 관객석의 어르신들이 좋아할 만한 신나는 노래를 고를 것을 추천 드립니다.

A: I heard the National Singing Contest was held in our neighborhood a few days ago. 며칠 전 우리 동네에서 전국노래자랑이 열렸다던데?
B: Yeah, that's right. I actually took part. 응, 맞아. 사실 나도 참가했었어.
A: Really? Did you make it to the finals? 정말로? 혹시 본선까지 올라간 거야?
B: No, there were so many skilled contestants that I couldn't get to the main stage. 아니, 워낙 실력이 쟁쟁한 참가자들이 많아서 본선 무대는 가지 못했어.
A: That's too bad. 아쉽네.
B: I still made great memories while preparing. I'm satisfied with that. 그래도 준비하면서 좋은 추억을 쌓은 것 같아서 그것에 만족하고 있어.
