My Sister

 

I am the fifth of seven sisters. One of my sisters is especially dear to me - my eldest sister. She has always been the one to provide answers and guidance during the most difficult and pivotal moments of my life.

​나는 일곱 자매 중에서 다섯 번째 딸이다. 언니들 중에 나에게 정말 특별한 언니가 있다. 바로 우리 큰 언니이다. 내가 살아오면서 가장 힘들었던 순간, 가장 중요한 순간에 늘 해답을 주고 가이드를 해 준 장본인이 바로 우리 언니이다.

 

After our parents passed away a few years ago, my eldest sister and her husband stepped up even more, taking on the role of our parents. Sometimes, I almost feel like our late mom and dad have been reincarnated as my sister and brother-in-law.

​몇 년 전 부모님께서 돌아가신 후에는, 큰언니와 형부가 더욱더 나서서 부모님의 역할을 해 주었다. 가끔은 돌아가신 엄마 아빠께서 언니와 형부로 환생한 것 같은 착각이 들 정도이다.

 

Even though I am over 40 now, my sister still does all she can to take care of me. She even looks after my children, for which I am endlessly grateful. I hope to live a long and healthy life with her, repaying her for all she has done for me.

​내가 40살이 넘었는데도, 우리 언니는 아직까지 나를 정성을 다해 챙겨 준다. 우리 아이들까지 돌봐 주는 정말 고마운 언니이다. 언니와 건강하게 오래오래 함께 살면서, 언니가 내게 해 준 모든 것에 대해 은혜를 갚고 싶다.

A: Do you have any older siblings in your family? 언니나 오빠 있으세요?

B: All seven siblings in our family are sisters, and I'm the fifth oldest. 저희 가족은 7명이 전부 자매예요. 제가 다섯째고요.

A: Wow, so you have older sisters and younger ones too. 와. 그럼 위로 언니들, 아래로 동생들이 있겠네요.

B: Yes, and our eldest sister takes really good care of us. 네, 큰언니가 우리를 정말 잘 챙겨 줘요.

A: There must be a big age gap. 나이 차이가 제법 나겠어요.

B: She's 12 years older than me. Sometimes, she feels like a parent. 저보다 12살이 많아요. 가끔은 부모님처럼 느껴지기도 해요.
