After-school Childcare Programs

 

Grade school after-school care programs are meant for first and second graders. They provide care for the children in classrooms within the school. They are mostly aimed at families with low income, single parents, or dual-income households.

​초등 돌봄 교실은 보통 초등학교 1~2학년 학생들을 대상으로, 학교 내 교실에서 이루어지는 돌봄 활동입니다. 저소득층, 한부모, 맞벌이 가정 등을 대상으로 하는 경우가 많습니다.

 

The programs provide snacks and care for children after regular school hours until they head to private academies. They also operate during school vacations, which makes them a life-saver for parents. For lower grades, school ends around 12:30 p.m. after the fourth period and lunch, creating a significant gap in care.

학교 정규 수업을 마치고 학원에 가기 전까지 아이들에게 간식 및 돌봄을 제공하고, 방학 때도 운영 되어 부모에게 큰 도움이 됩니다. 초등 저학년의 경우에는 4교시 후 점심을 먹고 나면 12시 30분쯤에 하교하는 터라 돌봄 공백이 큽니다.

When I applied for the program at my child's school, they held a lottery. I can't describe how happy was when my child was selected. For working parents, it's an immense relief. On the other hand, I did worry about how the children who didn't get in would fill the care gap.

저의 경우에는 아이 학교에 돌봄 교실을 신청했을 때, 추첨을 진행했습니다. 아이가 당첨되었을 때 얼마나 기뻤는지 모릅니다. 맞벌이 부모에게는 돌봄 교실이 정말 큰 도움이 됩니다. 한편으로는 떨어진 친구들은 어떻게 돌봄 공백을 메울지 걱정이 되기도 했습니다.
