Toy Cars

I have an adorable 31-month-old son. Of all his many toys, cars are his particular favorite. He especially likes the characters from the animated show "Tayo, the Little Bus." He has collected over 30 toy cars now, and it's getting out of hand​.

​저는 31개월 된 사랑스러운 아들이 있습니다. 아들은 수많은 장난감 중 자동차를 가장 좋아합니다. 특히 꼬마 버스 타요(Tayo, the Little Bus) 애니메이션에 나오는 캐릭터들에 푹 빠져 있습니다. 어느덧 30개 이상의 장난감 자동차를 모아서, 이제 감당할 수 없을 정도입니다.

My son has memorized the names of all the bus, truck, and heavy machinery characters, and he even knows what each vehicle is used for. I work in the automotive industry, so l enjoy explaining cars to him.

​아들은 버스, 트럭부터 중장비 차량 캐릭터까지 이름을 모두 외우고 있고, 각각 어떤 기능의 차량인지도 잘 알고 있습니다. 저도 자동차 업계에서 일하다 보니, 아들에게 자동차에 대해 설명해 줄 수 있어서 좋습니다.

But my wife strongly insists that we stop buying more toys, because we already have more than we can handle. I bought some more a few times behind my wife's back, but I was caught and got chewed out for it​. I've come to think that buying new toy cars at regular intervals might be the way to maintain peace in our home.

​하지만 아내는 이미 감당할 수 없을 정도로 많아서, 장난감 자동차를 그만 사 줘야 한다고 강력하게 말합니다. 사실 아내 몰래 몇 번 사 다가, 걸려서 혼난 적도 있습니다. 저는 일정한 간격을 두고 새로운 장난감 자동차를 사 주는 것이 집안의 평화를 가져올 거라는 생각이 들었습니다.

B: Toy cars cost quite a bit, don't they? 장난감 자동차 가격이 만만치 않던데?

A: Yeah, they can be pretty pricey. 응, 제법 비싸더라고

B: Once he gets older, he'll start asking for dinosaur toys, too. You'd better be ready! 아이가 좀 더 크면 공룡 장난감을 사 달라고 할 테니, 긴장하고 있어야 할 거야!
