Preparing for Grade School

 

My child will soon be entering elementary school. The thought of my child starting grade school next year made me feel a bit anxious. I've heard that while kindergarteners return home after 4 in the afternoon, grade school kids come home shortly after lunch. That means there isn't much free time left over for the moms.

아이가 어느새 초등학교 입학을 앞두고 있습니다. 아이가 내년에 초등학교를 간다는 생각이 들자 조급한 마음이 들었습니다. 유치원생은 오후 4시 이후에 집에 돌아오지만 초등학생은 점심 직후에 귀가하기에, 엄마의 자유 시간이 많지 않다는 이야기를 들었거든요.

 

So, I decided to prepare this year for certification exams that take up a lot of time. First, I studied for and obtained certification as an elementary school math instructor. Next, I earned a certificate for computerized accounting. It required more test prep than I expected because it was an unfamiliar field. I had to take the test with a sense of tension that I hadn't felt in a while. Before my child starts elementary school, I plan to prepare for two more certifications.

그래서 올해 시간 투자가 많이 필요한 자격증 시험을 준비하리고 결심했습니다. 가장 먼저 초등 수학 지도사 자격증을 공부하여 취득했습니다. 다음으로 전산 회계 자격증도 취득했스빈다. 생소한 분야라서 생각보다 준비가 더 많이 필요했고, 오랜만에 긴장하며 시험도 치러야 했습니다. 아이가 초등학교에 입학하기 전에 자격증 두 개를 더 준비하려고 합니다.

 

I believe showing my child the effort I put into studying is a valuable lesson. I'm not sure whether these certifications will ever come in handy. But I believe the time and effort I spent will not be in vain.

엄마가 공부하며 노력하는 모습을 보여 주는 것도 아이에게 좋은 공부라는 생각을 합니다. 이 자격증이 유용하게 사용될지는 잘 모르겠습니다. 하지만 제가 들인 시간과 노력은 헛되지 않으리라 믿습니다.

A: Your child is entering grade school next year, right? 아이가 내년에 초등학교에 입학하죠?

B: Yes, that's right. 네, 맞아요.

A: Kids grow up so quickly, don't they? 아이들이 금방 크지 않나요?

B; It's true. I used to wonder when my baby would grow up, and now he's already starting school. 그러게요. 아기 때 언제 크나 했는데, 이제 벌써 학교에 입학을 하네요.

A: Exactly. The years seem to have gone by in a flash when you look back on the past. 맞아요. 돌이켜 보면 세월이 참 빨리 지나간 느낌이 들어요.

B: I always do my best to be a good role model for my growing child. 성장하는 아이에게 좋은 엄마의 모습을 보여 주기 위해서 저도 항상 노력하고 있어요.
