Soon to Be Grandpa

 

I am an avid listener of EBS "입트영." My home is in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do Province, but my workplace is in Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do Province. So, since August 2022, my wife and I have been a long-distance couple meeting only on weekends. *commuter marriage 주말 부부

​저는 EBS '입트영' 애청자입니다. 집은 경기도 안양이지만, 직장이 전라북도 정읍에 있습니다. 그래서 2022년 8월부터 아내와 저는 주말부부로 지내고 있습니다.

 

My son tied the knot last September. My daughter-in-law is pregnant, which means that come October, I will become a grandfather. This has taken me by surprise, and it still hasn't sunk in(받아들이다) that I'm going to be a grandpa.

​저희 아들은 작년 9월에 결혼을 했습니다. 며느리가 임신을 하여, 다가오는 10월이면 저는 할아버지가 됩니다. 예기치 못한 일이라, 아직까지는 제가 할아버지가 된다는 것이 실감이 나지 않습니다.

 

It feels like just yesterday that I got married, but 34 years have already passed. As I get on in years, it seems like each year flies by even faster.

​결혼한 지가 엊그제 같은데, 벌써 34년의 세월이 흘렀네요. 나이를 먹다 보니 한 해 한 해가 더욱 빨리 지나가는 것 같기도 합니다.

 

I sincerely hope my daughter-in-law will have a healthy delivery and that our grandchild will arrive safe and healthy into our family's arms.

​아무쪼록 며느리가 건강하게 순산하고, 우리 손주도 건강한 모습으로 우리 가족의 품으로 오기를 간절히 바라고 있습니다.

A: The first grandchild is always extra special. 첫 손주는 유난히 더 특별하죠.

B: It still hasn't really sunk in that I'm a grandfather. 할아버지가 되었다는 것이 아직 정말 실감이 나지 않아요.

A: I felt the same way at first. It only started to feel real after our second grandchild was born. 저도 처음에는 그랬어요. 둘째 손주가 태어나니까 실감이 나기 시작하더라고요.

B: Oh, I see. 아, 그러셨군요.
