Jack: Sure. That intense clash between the North and South in the 1950s, right? 그럼. 1950년대 남북한 간의 그 격렬한 충돌을 말하는거지?

Mina: Bingo! It started today in 1950 when the North Korean forces charged across the border. 그렇지! 바로 1950년 오늘 북한군이 국경을 넘어 쳐들어와서 시작되었어. *charged across the border 국경을 넘어 공격했다

Jack: Right, and then the UN stepped in to back up the South, with the US and others lending a hand. 맞아, 그리고 유엔이 개입해서 남한을 지원했고, 미국과 다른 여러 나라들이 도움을 줬지.

Speaking with a Foreigner on the Street

A few days ago, I was out with my mom. While waiting for the bus at the bus stop, a woman behind me from overseas said, "Excuse me." She had a tired expression, as if she hadn't received an answer even after talking to several people earlier.

She wanted to take a bus to the train station to catch a train, and she asked if it was the right bus to take. However, since the bus she mentioned takes a longer route through the city, I wanted to inform her that another bus with a different number would be a quicker option.

She asked why the other bus was faster, and I tried my best to explain it to her in English. I wasn't fully satisfied because what I said didn't seem grammatically correct, and I wondered if I had conveyed the message properly. But I saw her board the correct bus, and I felf a quiet sense of satisfaction. ​

A: A foreigner approached me on the street yesterday and struck up a conversation in English. 어제 길에서 외국인이 저에게 와서 영어로 말을 걸었어요.

B: Oh, really? 아, 정말요?

A: Yes, she was asking for directions. 네, 길을 물어보더라고요.

B: Did you help her out? 잘 알려 주셨어요?

A: I tired to use what I've learned from studying. But I was a little nervous. 평소에 공부해서 익힌 것들을 활용해 봤어요. 그런데 조금 긴장이 되더라고요.

B: You must have felt very proud! 뿌듯하셨겠네요!
